The Best Time to Visit the Gold Coast — Honest Season Notes
Ask ten locals and you'll get eleven answers. Here's the version we give guests when they ask us at the desk.
Summer (Dec–Feb): busy, hot, brilliant
Peak season in every sense: 28–30° days, warm water, school-holiday crowds and the highest room rates of the year. The pool deck is in its element and the rooftop runs full sessions. Book four-plus weeks ahead — suites and cabanas go first. If you hate queues, this isn't your season; if you want the classic Coast summer, nothing beats it.
Locals' secret: the best Coast weather isn't summer — it's the six weeks either side of Easter, when the crowds leave and the ocean stays warm.
Autumn (Mar–May): the sweet spot
Our honest favourite. Days sit at 24–27°, humidity drops, the ocean stays swimmable through April, and room rates soften after Easter. Rain is possible but rarely ruins a week. This is when we book our own families in — the resort feels like a resort, not a queue.
- March–April: warm water, smaller crowds, best value of the year.
- May: cooler evenings — pack a light layer for the rooftop.
- School holidays still spike prices — check the Queensland term dates.

Winter and spring (Jun–Nov): hinterland season
Winter on the Coast is sunny and 20–22° — cold by local standards, glorious by southern ones. It's whale season, hinterland hiking season and the cheapest time for suites. Spring ramps back up: jacarandas, rising temperatures, and Schoolies in late November (avoid Surfers that fortnight — Nerang stays calm either way).
So when should you come?
Pool-and-beach trip: November to April. Value and space: March to June. Events and conferences: year-round, our floor doesn't care about weather. Whenever you come, midweek stays beat weekends on price every single time.
