From a tired motel to the Coast's most complete resort
Luna started in 2017 as a roadside motel on Hinkler Drive — good bones, bad carpets. The Sterling family bought it with a stubborn idea: a guest should be able to have dinner, a spa morning, a wedding or a night at the tables without ever calling a taxi.
Nine years and three renovations later, the motel is a 130-room resort with a casino wing, a rooftop bar and an events floor that runs 500 functions a year. The idea never changed — the building just grew around it.

Sterling family buys the Hinkler Drive motel. Occupancy: 31%.
2019 — the tower
Sixteen floors, 130 rooms, the rooftop bar opens.
2021 — the casino wing
Gaming licence granted; the floor opens with strict 18+ and responsible gaming controls from day one.
2024 — wellness wing
Spa, thermal suite, gym and the lagoon pool deck.
2025 — QLD Hotel of the Year
Regional accommodation award, plus a chef's hat for Meridian Kitchen.
2026 — 500 events a year
The events floor crosses half a thousand functions annually.
